Bollocks! Anyone who's ever read an interview in an American Gtr
magazine featuring a UK gtrst has heard of Hank Marvin and the
Shadows, 'cause every Brit gtrst, at least in the 60s-80s has cited
them as an influence. The American equivalent of the Shadows would
be, I guess, the Ventures. I've never actually heard the Shadows,
but I've heard a lot about them. Are they still around?
Generally, I think a Strat is at its best when played thru a cranked
amp, but that's where I come from. BTW, IMHO (Dr. Bob out there?)
one need go no further than Robin Trower (anything he's done) to get
the essential Strat sound, though few can get that sound. Before the
flaming begins, I know Robin played a SG-shaped Les Paul in Procol
Harum, so we can make that 'anything after PH.'
