BOC: cut the crap

The reality was that the visionary manager/booking agent Steve Shenck could
make more money right off the top with BOC (which of course contained the
same hired hands, not to mention much of the same material, as the Red&the
Black). But while some artists are driven, some are simply lazy. This is
nothing new.
By the way, the immediate lack of success was hardly an impediment to
the original BOC. There is no such thing as "overnight" success in real life,
even in show biz, only in fairytales. But the people who were driven, by
either creative ambition or professional pride (including Sandy Pearlman, who
originally saw in Donald the potential for fulfilling his own desires to be a
"starmaker") are no longer involved.
The real problem is that the most talented of 30C is probably a little
too comfortable to make any real change or decision. It's easier to make
excuses.
