Hello,
Saw the Cluster/The Brain show last night here in Boston. A very
small crowd of about 30 people for the Brain who also only played for
30 minutes or so, which was disappointing as they were just starting
to get into it. About 50 or so people for Cluster. They played some
really cool mellow spacey stuff but the volume was so low that the
sound of the kitchen in the next room was louder than they were. You
could hear the spanish dishwasher and the clanning of the dishes with
this spacey music going on in the background instead of the
foreground.
Anyway, David Kuznick and I spoke at length with Tony Greneas of
Pressurehead (the Brain/ Far Flung). He said that the new pRessurehed
Cd was finished and would be out in December. IT is going to be more
trancy and spacey and less heavy. When I asked about a tour he said
no, but that Far Flung have a new one and were going to tour for sure.
They were selling the 3CD space rock set for $30 at the show. Lots of
cool stuff on it..
He also spoke alot about HW and Nik Turner. He said that Nik was
trying to set up a US tour with his swing jazz band and was also
working on a deal for some more space rock on Alternative Tentacles
and not Cleppatra. HE also said that Dave Brock has a 2-3 hour proshot
video of Hawklord era Calvert material they he saw part of at some
point that was incredible with all these costume changes etc.. He said
the Knut who put together the Clavert web page has tried to get it for
his project was basically told to jump in a lake.. Tony really likes
Ron Tree and is glad that he is in the band. His main complaint with
new HW is not the music but that the lyrics are all just the same
thing and Dave is not very inspired these days, lyrically.. He said
Nik does have adesire to play with Dave again and relive the old days
when it was a comunnity band and not the dave brock controled band.
Overall, he is a really nice Irish guy... who loves to talk about
space rock (he didn't like Darxtar at all, but he had not heard the
new one). He did mention he just got a Roxy Music tape from 1972 and
that it was massivly HW influenced stuff!!
