and he didn't know why he had "Eponymous" for sale...

He may not have been being completely honest with you--or he may just be an
idiot! In my experience, though, most small shop owners are quite aware of
why they order or stock any title. But he may have also been trying to throw
you off the scent-- there are several foreign outlets that buy American promo
records and review copies in bulk. You can't tell from the albums' "sealed"
state, because the people who sell them just shrink wrap them again. You
didn't happen to notice if other items in the store were marked, in English,
"promo" or "Not For Sale" or had prominent holes or cut-out marks? These
people also buy the records very cheaply and then try to pass them off at the
usual inflated import price. Needless to say, little, if any, of the "profit"
flows back to the creators of the work.
But if this shop and its wares are indeed legitimate, you might want to
inform the owner of the availability of Trepanation, which can be ordered
from Ripe & Ready in the States. The pres of the company has an e-mail
address, MikeMango@ aol.com, and they (or you) can contact him directly for
more details and info.
