Friday night I briefly stopped at the annual fund raiser music sale
for the ALS foundation in Skokie (a Chicago suburb). There are
supposedly about 400,000 used and new records and CDs for sale there.
I didn't have much time to look then, but I came across two Hawkwind
items.
I was able to get a vinyl copy of Dave Brock's _Earthed to Ground_ LP
for $9.00. I also found a vinyl _Hall of the Mountain Grill_ for
$18.00. Although the LP was in good shape, the price seems rather
high. Given that I already have it, I didn't bother to purchase this
one.
There were a lot of other albums, that I would have gotten if I were
independently wealthy, but alas that is not the case. I saw German
pressings of Deep Purple albums, bootleg vinyl of Rainbow, etc., but
whoever was pricing them wasn't giving anyone any bargains. I did
pick up The Sensational Alex Harvey Band's _Tomorrow Belongs to Me_ LP
for $7.00 and the latest Machines of Loving Grace CD for $5.00,
though.
I'm planning to go back tonight when I actually have some time to
browse. Unfortunately, the records and CDs are not ordered except by
category, so one has to wade through loads of swill to find the gems.

Real programmers like vending machine popcorn. Coders pop it in the
microwave oven. Real programmers use the heat from the CPU. They can
tell which jobs are running from the rate of popping.
