Well, as far as I can remember, Martin Griffin (their drummer at the
time, 1981-1983), got seriously ill when HW were supposed to go into the
studio (Rockfield, I suppose) to record a new album in the summer of
1981. While waiting for poor Martin to recover, Dave and Harvey started
fooling around in the studio with keyboards and synths more than they had
ever done before. This eventually resulted in the *Church of Hawkwind*
album. HW recorded the *Sonic Attack* album upon Martin's recovery, but
the Church wasn't released 'til after Sonic Attack. Mind you, the *Virgin
of the World" track on Sonic Attack is from the Church sessions.
Did I remember everything correctly here? Hope so...
Cheers,
