Sadly, today marks the 7th anniversary of the passing of Procol Harum's
percussionist extrordinaire Barrie-James Wilson. For the best
representation of his wildly stylish drummery, check out the LP: "Live with
the Edmonston Symphony Orchestra"- a recording for which they had to do all
they could to keep the sound of his drums from overpowering the non-rock
musicians. Of further coolness and grandeur on the skins: listen to the
following tracks:
"Repent Walpurgis" on the 1st LP, "Strong as Samson" on Exotic Birds and Fruit
(produced shoddily by Chris Thomas) the B-side(now on most greatest hits
packages) "In the Wee Small Hours of Sixpence" and the entire _A Salty Dog_
LP.

If anything is to be learned from Procol's history, it is this: get someone
who can make all the instruments be heard properly as a producer (that and
a competent management).

Life is like a beanstalk, isn't it?
Jason
