Actually, one of the subcodes (along with the likes of "copy permit",
"pre-emphasis", etc.) encoded on Red Book CD audio is "four channel",
which is set to "no" for every music CD I've come across. But I guess
this implies you could encode quadraphonic programme material on CDs (or
at least they were thinking about this when defining the standard).
Playing it is another matter entirely, I guess... ;-)
