Yeah, I got some info on castles and it definitely looks expensive to
hire 'em even if they'd countenance a rock gig.
It might be possible to hire a farm near a ruin but we wouldn't be
allowed on the site of the ruin and we'd have to negotiate permissions,
toilets, ambulance cover, etc etc etc. It'd be possible, but a huge
amount of work and probably also expense. Still, if someone really wants
to go ahead and try this, and the band were up for it, I'd help. I
suspect we'd have to look for say 2000 Pounds minimum for the and, and
a minimum of 1000 Pounds in other costs. It'd be possible with close to
100 of us paying 50 (80 Dollars) each and some folks doing a *lot* of
work.
Working with an SF Con ought to be cheaper because we can share some
tech resources and the hotel will already be booked with appropriate
permissions. It shoudl also be possible to defray some costs by a small
door fee for Con members attending the show - making it a lot more
possible for us to put together a budget. It being at Heathrow makes it
possible for those outside the UK to visit. For those of us out of town,
the COn would provide entertainment for the entire weekend (allowing
some other possibilities lie Hawkwind oriented room parties) thus making
paying for travel more worthwhile (even from Scotland, travel costs will
be more than other expenses).
I also do believe that with such an event we can pull in some of the
ex-Hawks like Nik, Lemmy or Moorcock if we can get the organisation tied
down enough to convince them it's going to be a real Hawk event.
It ain't the absolutely perfect Hawkwind gig but it is a realistically
possible Hawkwind gig and one which Dave has said he'll pull out the
stops to make special. Add that to the possibilities of reunion type
guests and we can make something of this that we'll be proud to have
done.
If someone is willing to take up the mantle to organise something better
and it can be made realistically possible then I'd be willing to
withdraw in favour of that. Short of such an offer I think it would be
worthwhile for me to put my efforts into this.
What do you guys think?
