Yeeeow!
Andy, you missed a *ripping* gig from Bedouin in Cambridge
last night! (Though I did manage to flog your ticket.) It was
loud, it was heavy, and it _rocked_. I think the description of
Bedouin as a "psychedelic Motorhead" is not too far off. Alan
Davey may be playing smaller venues with his new band than he was
with Hawkwind, but he's definitely turned up the intensity and the
volume. And I think they pretty much blew most of the Hawkwind I've
seen away. "That," said Alan after the gig, "is why I left Hawkwind.
Dave [Brock] would be shouting 'you're too loud!'."
Bedouin are yer basic three-piece, though with Davey at the
helm that means the bass (Rickenbacker, of course) is the
second lead guitar--there are some synths going on, mostly
handled by Davey stomping on something that looked like it
started life as a set of organ foot pedals. The synths add
some colour, but are mostly a bit of background swirl behind a
roar of cranked amps and auto-cannon drumming.
Bedouin are space rock flying rapidly towards space metal.
And even Lemmy might have to agree that they kicked ass.
They're planning another tour in February, having so far
been asked back by every venue they've been playing on this
tour. Be there, be very deaf :) My ears may stop ringing
eventually.
I'm *strongly* tempted to go see them in London despite the
fact that that gig conflicts with Motorhead in Cambridge on
the 14th.
Cheers,
Carl
