Interesting. I have to admit that I preferred his solo albums over
the performance of Lighthouse on Live 79 - which was disappointing on
the recording. I understand that he was terrific to hear on stage
but I never managed to catch a live show. I think that New Jerusalem
was also performed on that tour? But for some reason that track wasn't
used on the Live album.
I feel that his keyboards/synth added exactly the kind of extra sound
in the same way that Simon House's violin or Nik Turner's flute/sax
did that Hawkwind tend to lack sometimes when they haven't got a lead
guitarist or they are short of a keyboard player or something. It's
the top layer of sound that you hook on to above the underlying bass.
I love that! But it's probably not to everyone's taste - just my
particular favourite incarnation of Hawkwind I guess!
