Well, no closer to the 'Tangerine Dream' naming mystery. The following is
from Kaleidoscope singer, Peter Daltrey's, homepage:

"On a six date promotional tour we met up a couple of times with Jeff
Lynne`s protopunk outfit, the Idle Race. Our first live gig after this was
at Reading University and the following week our first album was released.
Don`t ask me where the name came from because I don`t remember. We came up
with the name, but you tell me when that other shower were born; did they
nick the monicker?"
