The film was a major dissapointment. Calvert's song was far truer to the
book than the movie was.
Somehow Roscoe Tanner, tough guy rebel biker, becomes a clean cut military
haircut character and there are four of them on the trip. Most of it was
a waste, the only sequence that was effective was the carniverous roaches
bit.... the visual effects were interesting, but hardly convincing...
That part I could've forgiven (Zelazny was often quite unscientific, or
rather,
turned more towards inner sciences than external ones) if they hadn't
butchered
the character, which was the main part of interest in the novella... (Zelazny
once stated that he preferred the short novella to the full length book he
later expanded it into, which he did because his agent told him they might get
a movie deal if he did)...
