At the last Allman Brothers Band gig I went to there was this taper with
a seemingly never-ending mic stand that he extended about 20 feet into
the air above the crowd around him. Great for minimising chit chat on
your recordings, I guess. :-)
Then again, the ABB allow taping, so you can get better recordings than
with bands that forbid it.
Speaking of chit chat, I was listening to a recording of the Hawkwind
1975 Reading Festival show yesterday, and had to chuckle at the taper
and his friend editorialising whilst watching the gig. I doubt he
realised his comments would be immortalised for posterity. I
particularly liked the part where he was pontificating on exactly when
he would do the tape flip (a great tension-builder!:). I never thought
I'd hear a taper discuss that on tape... ;-)
