You might want to try Tanya Huff's _Wizard of the Grove_. It's a twofer
repackaging of _Child of the Grove_ and _The Last Wizard_. I picked it up
because the back cover blurb on _Child of the Grove_ said it was set in the
time when the race of Man was created as a plaything for Lord Death.
At page 100 I was marvelling that she'd already covered more plot ground than
most authors put in a trilogy. Everything I've read by her has been very good,
but _Wizard of the Grove_ is the most sword-and-sorcery.
When I checked Amazon to make sure I got the title right I discovered she has
a new book out. Have to stop at the book store on the way home. (-8
