I'm perfectly willing to believe that most governments are way over the top ;)

I'm certainly not competant to judge what the correct repsonse to the
crisis is -- not least because there's so little information about
what it is -- which is why my taxes theoretically employ people who
are competant. But people have to dig around the net and asking their
mates who are vetrinarians simply to find out what the cause of this
crisis _is_. We pay for this goverment, so where's our customer
service? Can I demand my taxes back when the product doesn't live up
to its advertising?

But I think what really makes me nervous is not whether the
government's policy is right or not, it's that they're saying "We
*must* do X! It's the only way!" without any to explanation of why.

Rocky economic times, systems collapse, politicians saying "You have
do this!"....it's all vaguely worrisome. Whose to stop people
putting some madman in power who promises to make the trains run on
time ....?

Cheers,
Carl
