HW: Hastings - brief response

It won't go down as one HW's best gigs by any means. Huw was completely out
of it and pretty much had to told to stop playing Fur Kirsty by Dave and he
was mixed out during the following song. Tim's singing of Spirit Of The Age
just didn't work for me and need more than just Richard backing him up. The
sound was bad which kind of brought the gig down generally and the band
didn't really gell. There were some great moments, some amazing soloing
from Dave here and there, particularly in Damnation Alley. Hurry On Sundown
was great too. Oh, and it was Ali who sung Flying Doctor, with Dave throwing
in some the spken bits in the middle.

The Hawkfest set, however, was a different matter. Better sound, much, much
tighter. Huw was better than at Devon but not on peak form. At least he
could be heard playing Strange Flower even if his vocals were a bit weak.
Again Spirit Of The Age didn't work for me with Tim's vocals. This time
Dave bailed him out thou'! A cracking set, same as Hastings but plus a
jammed piece with Captain Rizz. Close on to 2hrs. Brainbox Pollution,
Night Of The Hawks (they just had to open the festival set with this!), LSD,
Hurry On Sundown, Damnation Alley (too long since that was last played!) and
The Watcher were high spots for me. Great lights again from Chaos
Illumination.
