Well, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em...
*Hawkwind fan: since 1980
*how many CD's: oh, a hundred and some (HW), maybe 200 F&R, mostly in Ohio
still. :( ~3,000 ? total.
*collects live recordings and other Hawkwind junk: Yeah, sort of...when it
happens to come my way easily enough. Not obsessively.
*why a Hawkwind fan: Not only were they my 'gateway drug' (as Chuck
suggested) to a whole new world of music that I'd previously not heard
before (within just one-two years, my favorite bands went from Led Zeppelin,
Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, and Scorpions to Hawkwind, Amon Duul II, Gong, and
Nektar, though I maintain my interest in just about every band I've ever
liked (to some degree)), but Hawkwind was always the best too. Except in c.
1983 (that only Doug liked!), when they went totally wacko briefly (with Huw
and Nik 'pulling' the band in completely opposite directions, and Nik
completely losing his grip.) :)
*First album you picked up: Space Ritual 2LP (still shrink-wrapped on
National Record Mart store shelves, where it probably had sat waiting
patiently for me to arrive for seven years). This was after having heard
Quark, Strangeness, and Charm (side two first) when my brother returned from
U. of Illinois with this to play for me. It (SR) wasn't quite the same
(music)! But it was perhaps even better. And the following year, I picked
up the brand new "No Sleep 'till Hammersmith" and then *I* was never quite
the same! :)
*Seen live how many times: I think l6 (plus 1 StrangeWind), and NikFlungWind
about 4-5.
*Nik or Dave: Dave by TKO in the 7th round.
