I can't say too much about the Hawkfest because I promised Starfarer that
I'd write a little review.
Once again that was the highlight of my year, as much for the social
atmosphere as for the music. For days I'm on a real high after this
festival before I get absorbed back into the work-a-day world. On arrival
back in London I watched people coming home after work looking tired,
caught up in their usual habits and moods. I watched the news and all the
usual crap that people argue about just seemed trivial.
Hawkwind played a blinding set with loads of energy this year. Best bits
for me were seeing Arthur Brown with his costumes and props doing Time
Captives, I love that song, and the Right Stuff which was electric.
I'll say hello to everyone I saw there. Steve Starfarer for driving us up
there, Stephe Lindas who came over from the US, Dave from the Hawkwind
Museum, Engineer Benny, Alan and Andrea, the Nederlanders, California
(anyone else meet this guy?), Maxine Wesley, Jim Mountjoy who did the
Choose Your Masques and Sonic Attack artwork and anyone else. Thanks to
everyone who worked there.
I feel like I should have made more use somehow of just 3 days of
enjoyment. This festival is a gem of personal freedom when many other
festivals/gatherings are completely infiltrated by commercial interests.
Please organise another one another one next year.
Alastair.
