The whole part about the first six volumes being turned into one movie
doesn't make it sound too promising. But who knows? ;-)

Part of the reason LotR has been excellent (IMO) is that New Line dared to
make three movies, instead of the one or two that Miramax wanted to film.
Even so, there's a lot in Tolkien's story that has been left out due to time
constraints, as well as a few gratuitous changes to the storyline. I would
imagine a movie reworking six novels would require some major
"re-imagining."
