Technically, "The Grateful Dead" have been kaput, but "The Dead" just
toured last summer, as I recall ;) with the surviving core members
and various friends and relations rounding things out. Audience
members can record freely and trade their recordings, and the band
sells soundboards which you're not allowed to trade (on the honor
policy).
Plenty of other US bands have just about exactly the same policy --
because it's an excellent promotional tool -- but I don't think BOC
(or HW in the UK) are among them. On the other hand, bands for which
this is popular usually shake up their set-lists every night and may
play one way or another (thus the interest in catching a particular
moment for posterity) which BOC (and HW) are less prone to do, so it
might be harder to get people excited about collecting very similar
shows from the tour ....
Cheers,
Carl
