BOC: Which albums for beginners

I've ever thought that a good rule in the process of getting into a band
is following the chronological order, especially if it's about a
long-story-multi-dimension-multi-version band like BOC.

So, I think that a good place to start are the first four studio albums,
in chronological order:

Blue Oyster Cult
Tyranny and Mutation
Secret Treaties
Agents of Fortune

Fire Of Unknown Origin is worth a try too. It's one of my favorite albums.

The "not-entirely-a-BOC-album" Imaginos is wonderful but quite difficult
to understand if one doesn't know their first works.

I also think that the live dimension is fundamental to fully appreciate
a band. It's where one can find out how the band feels about its own
songs. On Your Feet Or On Your Knees is the top live album of BOC, in my
opinion.

After all that, if you don't know Brain Surgeons, you may give them a
try. The past month I introduced a friend of mine to tBS music. After
listening to Malpractice he started buying their CDs because "in some
way they are more BOC than BOC themselves" (his words). Piece of Work or
better Malpractice (since you're a HW fan) are a good place to start.
