The list knows by now how rare it is for me to break my swearless
practice so I trust you will take my word when I say that that Farflung
set is *bloody excellent*, and endearing also for how glad Tommy was to
have an audience of any size; mainly however it just hammers through the
material without concessions to time or venue, and spreads the work across
all the old albums as well as a good tranche of the new one. I would
*recommend* this as listening.
Also, Carl, you entirely need to check out the 2008 set from Ira
de Dios. I was there and the recording is as good as the set then, plus
which, it ought to flip a number of your switches being (a) heavy, (b)
jammed and stoning, (c) mainly vocalised in Latin American Spanish and (d)
ornamented with numerous rather indulgent but not over-long guitar breaks.
I tell you:

Probably not just Carl, either,
Odd comparison to the set by Kruger, which I remember as being
crushing and completely masterful, and comes across in proper recording as
smug and rather go-nowhere. I suppose it makes a lot of difference when
you can't hear the words, but I'm not used to the difference being in that
direction. Also, of course, it was much louder than I dare play it at home
and I was drunk and emotional, but even so, I just can't get into this one
the way it was live. Odd. Oh well, that's why we pay for tickdts innit,
yours,
Jon
