Last Train Home?
If you want Metheny giving it the gun, but without the "noise" factor, try
"Song X" which he made with Ornette Coleman, or, closer to the mainstream,
"I Can See Your Place From Here" with John Scofield. My current favourite
is "The Sign of Four" a triple improvisng set with Derek Bailey and two
percussionists (Gregg Bendian & Paul Wertico), but that's pretty difficult
stuff unless you're into free improv. Overall, I like PM best when he's
working with others rather than his own band - it seems like his peers
bring out the best in him e.g. "80/81", "Rejoicing".
That's enough of my elitist droning.
